Show Utah Construction To Lay Off 70 Man Force Employment in Cedar City and surrounding area will be hard hit again this week when another crew of miners finishes its work Friday, Dec. 31, according to company officials and employment employ-ment representatives. A total of 62 men employed for some time by Utah Construction Construc-tion Company on a stripping contract at the iron mines west of Cedar City, will finish the job ! Friday and will be laid off. Unless Un-less new stripping contracts are 'let, and there is no indication of this at present, the lay-off is expected ex-pected to be permanent. A crew of eight men will be retained on the job for another week., for finishing details, and when they are dropped from the payroll late next week the total reduction in the labor force will reach 70 men. It is reported that this lay-off is the last of the stripping crew workers that have been employed employ-ed by the company, and that only a force doing actual mining will be retained. |
