Show i Brcncos Subdue Mesa In Hit -Miss Game Mesa Junior College of Grand Junction. Colo., opened up a series ser-ies of basketball contes's with some of the top teams of ibe Intermountain In-termountain Collegiate Athletic Conference this week, which will be the most accurate comparison of the ICAC teams just one week before the conference openers. Tuesday night the Mesa Mavericks Mav-ericks went down to defeat at the hands of the College of Southern Utah Broncos by a score of 84 to G4. Monday evening the Colorado invaders suffered another 20 point defeat at the hands of Weber. Wednesday evening eve-ning they moved to St. George and this evening, Thursday, they tackle the Snow Badgers at Ephraim. Broncos Start Slow Tuesday evening Coach Cleo Petty's Broncos started out slow but gained momentum as the game progressed. At one time the score was tied at 23 all but the local boys pushed ahead in the final minutes of the first half to hold a 36 to 28 lead. At the opening of the second half the Broncos boosted the margin to 14 points and coasted to victory. Keith Cooley hit high for the Broncos with 17 points. Doug Stoker Sto-ker was close behind with 1G and Don Ray Melling and Ray Robinson showed some exceptionally excep-tionally fine floor work during the evening. First Stringers Petty relied on Cooley, Stoker, Melling, Robinson and Dale Neil-son Neil-son throughout most of the first half and in the early minutes of the second period. Early in the second half a second string crew composed of led Atherley, Donald Floyd, Bob Davis, Dick Sylvester and Ted Chidester, got into the game and kept the ball rolling for the Broncos. Every man on the squad except three saw action during the evening. George Brklacich, a member of last year's Jordan High School Class A championship team, reported re-ported to Coach Petty and he was used during the evening. The Broncos, suffering from a layoff over the Christmas holidays, holi-days, were spotty throughout the evening. At times the offensive punch of C S U was clicking like clockwork, while on other occasions occa-sions confusion was multiplied by more confusion.
