Parson Jones who enjoyed a nip or two could think of no graceful way to refuse, re-fuse, whereupon the visiting deacon dea-con delivered a lengthy sermon on the evils of drink. Concluding his remarks, the deacon's voice shook with fervor as ho stated, "I could take all the whiskey, gin, and other evil liquors in the world and hurl them into the Mississippi. In the pause that followed, Tarson Jones solemnly addressed the congregation, "In conclusion brethren, let us sings hymn number 12: We shall gather at the River." |
