Show I Broncos Turn Back Strona Ricks Five For I C A Conference Championship The Branch Agricultural College Col-lege basketball team turned back the Ricks Vikings in two hard fought and well played games Thursday and Friday night to win the I C A C championship, the first time the Broncos have gained the honor since the conference con-ference was formed in 1943. The Broncos took the measure of the Vikings by a score of 69 to 66 in the opening game Thursday Thurs-day night, and came back to trim the visitors from Rexburg, Idaho, by a 76 to 60 score, Friday night. The series w-as scheduled as a two out of three contest affair af-fair with the final game set for Saturday night. However, the smooth working Broncos, determined deter-mined to sew up the championship, champion-ship, battled the northern division divi-sion titleholders into defeat without with-out the necessity of the third encounter. The Rexburg team had fallen to the Broncos in the invitational tournament here in December, but had made such tremendous improvement through the season that Crvach Brick Parkinson's team was confident that it could turn the tables on Coach Cleo Fetty's squad and win the conference con-ference title for the second consecutive con-secutive year. What they failed to realize, however, was that the Broncos had improved even more than the Vikings. Coach Parkinson put a team on the floor that was determined to win," and they never stopped fighting throughout the full two games, but they were just not good enough to beet BAC- Wif Ili-tntr Inn finrt Rn-ant Qn 1 1 1 mo 1qc( the Vikings attack, scoring sensationally, sen-sationally, especially from way out, and rustling the ball brilliantly bril-liantly at all trmes. In the onenins game the teams battled on even terms for the first quarter of play, each ringing ring-ing up 17 points, before the Broncos Bron-cos pulled away to take a 35 to 30 half time lead. With Adams and Marshall leading the scoring, scor-ing, the Broncos stayed from five to eight points in the lead until a few desperate shots in the final minutes of play pulled the Viking Vik-ing to within three points of the Broncos as the game ended with Petty's crew winning 69 to 66. The second game, although won by a wider margin, was a tougher game for the Broncos to win, and a much better played encounter. In this game the Broncos Bron-cos apparently hit their peak of the season, and performed brilliantly. bril-liantly. With Squires, Hopkins and Sellers displaying some of the most remarkable shooting almost from mldcourt, the visitors visit-ors matched the brilliance of the Broncos until midway of the final fin-al period when the Broncos started start-ed to pull away and the Vikings cracked under pressure and let Coach Petty's team made a rout of the game for the last few minutes. The Broncos held a 19 to 16 lead at the end of the first quarter, quar-ter, but Ricks was leading 38 to 37 by half time.
