Show Cooperation of Local Administration Sought by League Editor's Note: The following letter, addressed to the Mayor of Cedar City. Is the first step taken by the newly organized league of women voters to seek a better understanding of governmental problems, and to stimulate great-er great-er participation in the affairs of the city administration. H. .'fc 'r -.c The Honorable L. V. Broadbent The Mayor's Office Cedar City, Utah Dear Sir: On Feb. 16 a provisional League of Women Voters was organized or-ganized here in Cedar City. We are proud to be a part of the League of Women Voters of the United States, a non partisan organization or-ganization founded in 1920 to increase Informed and active citizen citi-zen participation in government. With more than 100.000 members the League works in 848 communities commu-nities in the 48 states, the District Dis-trict of Columbia, Hawaii and Alaska. Our first undertaking, as a local lo-cal organization, is to learn more about the government of our own town; for we realize that the way in which ordinary citizens work together to solve their common problems determines the success or failure of our whole political system. In order to take our citizen responsibilities responsibili-ties seriously we must know the facts about our local government. Therefore, we begin our work with a survey of that government. govern-ment. We do not start with established es-tablished opinions or prejudices. Instead, we want to learn the facts so that we may understand the problems our city officials face and do whatever we can tn help them in their important task. Mr. Mayor, as the head of our city government, you can aid us greatly by your own understanding understand-ing of what we are trying to do and by your interpretation of our undertaking to the officials with whom you work. We shall be deeply grateful for your assistance. as-sistance. We look forward to knowing you and the other officers offi-cers of our city better, and to be- coming abler partners in our common task of town government. govern-ment. Sincerely yours, Blanche Y. Burton. President, Provisional League of Women Voters of Cedar City. |
