Show Two-Day County Health Conference Features Outstanding State Leaders I : -'. : : VS. ' v ' ' "it , ' - t ' MORONI H. BROWN Featuring the theme of "Using I Rural Leadership to Improve Community Health", a community-school health conference will open in Cedar City this evening and continue throughout Friday with many noted .specialists in the field of community health in attendance. The conference is j sponsored by the Irun County schools, the Branch Agricultural (college, Parent -Teachers associations, associa-tions, Utah Tuberculosis and Health association and the Utah 'division of the American Cancer Society. The purpose is to provide an opportunity for the people of Iron county to discuss common health needs pertinent to this particular area, to revitalize the community attitude toward more healthful living, and to put into use recommendations rec-ommendations of this conference in all phases of corr.munity-schrol corr.munity-schrol health activity. A public meeting will be held this evening . (Thursday) at which Dr. Reed W, Farnsworth, chairman Utah committee on Rural Ru-ral Health, will give a report on the National Rural Health conference con-ference at Roanoke, Va., and Dr. George A. Spendlove, Utah State Health Commissioner, will discuss dis-cuss essential community health activities. Sessions Friday will open at 10 a. m. with a general session in the B A C auditorium at which four short talks by state specialists special-ists will be given on subjects dealing with community health, health of the school child, adolescent ad-olescent and adult. Workshop sessions will follow immediately after the general session" closes. During the afternoon the workshop work-shop sessions will be continued with all participants meeting to-' gether at 3:15 p. m. for a summary' sum-mary' of the subject matter discussed dis-cussed throughout the day. The closing session will take place Friday evening at the First ward chapel at which an address "On Growing Old", one of the highlights of the entire conference, confer-ence, will be delivered bw Dr. Moroni H. .Brown, assistant professor pro-fessor of psychology at the University Uni-versity of Utah. William Manning, Man-ning, of the Utah State Department Depart-ment of Health will also address the evening meeting discussing the subject of "Using our resources resour-ces for better school and community com-munity health." The Canzona chorus will furnish musical numbers num-bers for the Friday evening meetings. Other speakers during the conference con-ference will be Mrs. Vera Mac-farlane Mac-farlane Gee, consultant in Speech and Hearing, State Department of Health; Dr. Bernice Moss, prof, of health and physical education, educa-tion, University of Utah, and Wallace F. Toronto, executive secretary, Utah division, American Ameri-can Cancer Society. The public Is invited and urged to attend the conference particularly parti-cularly the two evening meetings. |
