Show Local Navy Man Pilot For Ambassador To Germany from U.S. Carl Barton, aviation machinist's machin-ist's mate (aviation pilot), U. S. Navy, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Barton of Cedar City, is now serving serv-ing as pilot for the U. S. Ambassador Am-bassador to Germany. Chief Barton enlisted in the Navy 13 years ago last May at the Navy recruiting station in Cedar City. While serving with the Navy, Chief Barton is an aviation machinist's mate. In this field his duties consisted of handling and servicing of aircraft air-craft on the ground, in water and on deck, to service, maintain, install and "repair engines; check carburetors and fuel systems for proper operation; remove, service and install pumps, magnetos, ignition ig-nition coils, distributors, starters, generators, batteries, oil coolers, control panels, flight and engine instruments. Prior to the end of World War II Chief Barton was transferred to the Navy Flight school at Pennsacola, Fla. Upon graduation gradua-tion from this school he was designated des-ignated as an aviation pilot. Chief Barton, since being an aviation pilot has served at many Naval Air stations including two years at the Naval Air Station in Denver, Colo., and six months as a test pilot at the U.S. Naval Air Station, Patuxent River, Maryland. Mary-land. From this station Chief Barton was transferred to Berlin, Germany and his present assignment assign-ment as pilot for the U. S. Ambassador Am-bassador to Germany. |
