Show Aged Piute Woman Given Tribal Rites Climaxing three nights of tribal tri-bal chanting, a Piute funeral pow-wow was held Tuesday for Rena Squint, who is believed to be over 100 years old and the oldest resident of the Shevwit reservation, re-servation, 13 miles west of St. George. The aged Indian woman died Friday night at her home on the reservation, following a lengthy illness. Funeral rites were conducted con-ducted on the reservation. For three nights, chanting was conducted by tribe members from Iron, Kane and Washington counties in Utah, and from Arizona Ariz-ona and Nevada. With tribal rites, Mrs. Squint was buried in the reservation cemetery with her belongings. Funeral services of the LDS church were conducted Sunday in the reservation community church and school building by Reuben Ence, Bishop of the Ivins ward. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Mabel Yellowjacket, of the reservation; three grandchildren and great grandchildren. |
