Show Plans Rushed For Iron County Centennial Week Committees from all parts of Iron County are feverishly making final preparation for the county's big Centennial Celebration during the week of September 8th to 13th, a week-long celebration that 'will feature three major events, County Centennlad activities the Iron County Coun-ty Fair and the Southern Otah Livestock Live-stock Show. The Fair will be held In Parowan Paro-wan during the first three days of the week, with the Livestock Show to be held In Cedar City during the lust three days, and Centen-ial Centen-ial activities intermingled with both events. Most of the Centennial part of the celebration will be staged at Parowan, with a Pioneer play to be presented on two evenings, and a centennial parade to be staged Wednwday afternoon, September 10th. The parade will be repeated In Cedar City Friday afternoon, September Sep-tember 12th. As a feature of the County Fair there will be an Amateur Rodeo, to be staged on two afternoons un der the auspices of the Parowan Post of the American Legion. Corral and chutes have been erected at the race track, and a thrilling and entertaining en-tertaining show is anticipated. The Seventh Annual Southern Utah Livestock Show, to be held on the Branch Agricultural College campus, pomlses to be the finest In the state this year, with hundreds of choice sheep, cattle and swine exhibited and offered for sale In addition some of the finest horses In the state will be exhibited and Judged. The horse exhibit will Include In-clude thoroughbreds, quarter horses, stock and draft horses. Judging of the livestock exhibited will be done on the opening day, Thursday, September 11, wlMi 4-H Club and Future Farmer Chapter Judging contests scheduled for Friday Fri-day noon, simultaneous with the auction sale of breeding stock. The auction of fat lambs and steers, the outstanding event of the entire show, will open Saturday morning and continue throughout the day until all stock exhibited are sold. An outstanding feature of the show will be Hie second annual Calf Scramble, In which calves are turned loose In a corral and each boy to catch a calf is given the animal andhe agrees to feed and care for Ithe calf, fitting It for exhibit and sale at the next livestock live-stock show. Calves are being donated for this event by livestock and business busi-ness men of southern Utah, and two boys will be allowed to compete for eadi calf donated. The annual awards banquet, at which all 4-H club and Future Farmer chapter members will be guest of the Show Association, will be held Friday evening at the Es-calante Es-calante Hotel. |
