Show B ATTERY B ANTER from Battery F By Sgt. Hamlin Bracken We are fast becoming experts in the art of displaying our finery. A Goth Brigade Retreat parade was held Monday at 5 p. m. and Friday afternoon, Independence Day. The entire division passed in review before be-fore staff officers and thousands of civilian spectators. These parades that look so fine represent many hours of preparation prepara-tion for the soldier. He must begin the night before putting his equipment equip-ment in order then hours before the spectators arrive he is In position posi-tion ready fou, his turn to move. Long after the parde is over the soldier Is still busy putting his equipment In order for the next day's work. However, In spite of this additional work each soldier Is proud of the part he plays In this gigantic team. Fourteen homesick soldiers were granted furloughs this week: First Sergeant Peter N. Jordan. Mt. Pleasant; Sgt. Theron R. Bon-zo; Bon-zo; Corporals C. Price Halght Talmage McDonough and Arron Leigh; Pvts. Corry OLsen. Evan Dobson, Chester Petty, Fred Batts, Gene Nelsen, Louis Smith, B. K. K.neu ana Aima unamuenain, an of Cedar City; Corp. La Von Beatty, Pintura; and Pvt. Heber Giver, Parowan. It is hoped that all men who desire de-sire furloughs will be able to get them before the Washington maneuvers. man-euvers. Sergeant Howard Betensen is acting act-ing first sergeant in the absence of Sgt. Jordan. Highlights of the week in the eyes of the soldier, although not as spectacular as the parades, were pay day on Monday and relief from inspection on Saturday. Pay day culminates the activities activi-ties of the entire month, however brief a period his money remains with him. We might mention here that the average pay of an American Ameri-can soldier Is $60.00 per month. This is the average of the total salaries from the general to the private. Each Saturday a soldier and his equipment is inspected by his officers. of-ficers. It Is with a certain dread that each Saturday is anticipated. So being relieved of this Inspection was indeed a holiday. The nine selectees who joined up last week brought the membership of Battery F to 107. |
