Show Fifteen Boys Enter Official Soap Box Derby To Be Held In Cedar City On Pioneer Day Plans are rapidly talcing shape for the first official Soap Box Derby to be held in Cedar City which is scheduled to take place on Main street on July 24, under 4he joint sponsorship of the Cedar City Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Iron County Record. Fifteen local boys have entered the derby up to the present date, and six of these boys have their cars nearly completed for the big event. Sponsors of the affair point out that while the derby is scheduled for July 24, only two weeks away, there Is ample time for any boy who wishes to enter to get his car built before that time. In addition to the all-expense, round-trip to the state finals in Salt Lake City on August 2. whicn will be given to the winner of the local derby by the Bradshaw Chevrolet Chev-rolet Company, and the $100 in cash prizes, which will be awarded on derby day, arrangements have been made for other prizes to be awarded the participants. A $3 00 cash prize will be given to the young man whose car Is the first to pass the official inspection required of all cars entered in the race, with a $2.00 prize being offered to the second car to be Inspected and a prize of $1.00 for the third. All fifteen entrants are enthusiastic enthusi-astic about their chances to cop the grand prize and are working diligently to construct cars to meet the specifications set down in the 1941 official rule book for the All-Amerlcan All-Amerlcan Soap Box Derby. Members of the various committees commit-tees and officials named for the derby as well as other details concerning con-cerning the event, will be published In next week's Issue of the "Record." |
