Show Kanarra A very successful Independence Day celebration was held in Kanarra. Kan-arra. the celebration starting at midnight on Thursday, July 3, with a dance at the open air pavilfln. The dancing continued until 5 a. m. and was followed by flag raising ceremonies at sundlse. At 10:30 a parade in which all the children of the town under 12 years of age participated was held, with a splendid patriotic program commencing at 11 o'clock. MLss Dorothy Dor-othy Williams was chosen as Goddess God-dess of Liberty and was attended by Miss Darlene Williams and Miss Karen Wood. During the program letters from the local boys who are at the various training camps were read. Sports for the children held the spotlight during the afternoon, with a children's dance late in the afternoon. The day's celebration was brought to a close with a wiener roast in the evening for the general gen-eral public. The general committee in charge of the celebration included Browning Brown-ing Piatt, Ocal Williams, Venn Piatt, Juanlta Williams and Ethna Williams. The following people from other towns spent the Fourth of July here: Mrs. Zina Pollock, Mrs. Mae Banks and son Jay of Salt Lake City; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Birch and children of Price; Mrs. Rosina Blake of St. George; Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Williams and children of Beaver Dam, Arizona; Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Williams and children cf Hurricane; Mr. and Mrs. Max Williams Wil-liams and children, Mr. and Mis. Gordon Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Clair Piatt and children, Mr. and Mrs. Max Willis, Miss Lucille Ford, Mr. and Mrs. Boh; Adams and children, and Mrs. Leila Heaps and children, all of Cedar City; Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Bayles of Parowan ; and Miss Beryl Stapley of Delta. Mr. and M"rs. Geore Berry and granddaughter, Miss Karla Berry, left Friday for a week's trip to Yellowstone National Park. Browning Piatt left Saturday for Berkeley, California where he will be employed by the government as a civil engineer. Emerson Williams and Lavar Stapley have spent the past week in California. Noel Williams and his mother, Mrs. Martha Williams, left Sunday for Rock Springs, Wyoming, where Noel has employment. Mrs. Williams Wil-liams will visit with another sou and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Williams. Miss Winnifred Stapley of Castle Gate is here visiting with her grandmother, grand-mother, Mrs. Hattle Stapley. |
