Show NEW ENGINEERING COMMISSION TAKES OFFICE The ' Engineering ' Commission, successors to the State Road Commission, Com-mission, have taken up their duties at the State Capitol and have already al-ready begun to function. Commission members . are John Evans of Lehl, chairman, Layton Maxfleld of Delta, and Lester A. Blackner of Salt Lake City. Mr. Blackner is the Republican member mem-ber of the Commission. The Commission faces a strenuous task in its work of carrying out projects now under way and in planning other necessary Improvements Improve-ments and construction on the strategic highways of the State as well as the Improvement of those roads that are more local In character. char-acter. The Federal Government Is planning plan-ning a vast road Improvement program pro-gram and bills for the appropriation appropria-tion of the necessary funds are already al-ready before Congress. Utah will share in this road improvement program pro-gram because of its importance as a connecting link between the east and the west coasts. Work must be rushed during the construction season as mountain road building in the winter time Is practically Impossible. Im-possible. The Commission expects to name a Chief Engineer In the near future to succeed Ezra C. Knowlton who resigned as Chief Engineer to enter en-ter the service of the government. H. S. Kerr, Senior Engineer of the Commission is acting Chief Engineer En-gineer until the new appointment is made. |
