Qualifies For First N Y A Defense Project The Branch Agricultural College in Cedar City Is the first school In Utah to qualify fully for a National Nation-al Youth Administration defense project under the new act which has Just become effective, it was announced this week by C. F. Bletzacker. State Director of Works Projects for NYA. The city of Provo was the second sponsor to receive a defense project. Work on the two 1942 fiscal year defense projects Is scheduled to start In the very near future, according ac-cording to Mr. Bletzacker, and will be rushed to completion to become effective in NYA defense work experience ex-perience training as rapidly as possible. pos-sible. Plans call for $6,402 to b spent at the B. A. C. for the setting set-ting up of a machine shop to give NYA youth work experience making mak-ing machine tools, engine mounting and other machine necessities for public agencies. An additional $33,447 will be spent at Provo to complete a Work Experience Ex-perience Center which will be devoted de-voted entirely to defense work. Complete faculties and equipment of the Branch Agricultural College were offered the National Youth Administration to qualify the local college as the first school in Utah eligible for a defense work exper ience center under the new law, It was announced. A skilled machinist will supervise the installation of complete defense shop machinery and later he will supervise the work experience of the 12 youthful ma-chlnists-toolmakers for the NYA. It Is expected that the same man will teach Machine Shop Practice, shop mathematics and machine blue print reading and machine design de-sign for the B. A. C. Eighty hours of related training-a training-a month, plus 80 hours of productive work experience are called for at the B. A. C; and at Provo, 100 hours of work experience, plus 00 hours of related training. Youths will receive $24 for their part time work experience but must attend the related training classes on their own time. The two project are the first calling for full time In work experience and related training. "Scarcities already exist In some shop skills urgently required for defense maximum efficiency,' said Mr. Bletzacker. "These two projects will be rushed to completion In the shortest time possible so that the shops can be opened almost Immediately Im-mediately to go directly Into defease work experience production." "NYA youth are conscientiously' accepting their obligation to train skilled hands that will aid In safeguarding safe-guarding America. We believe that they are as anxious as we are to see these two shops In full blast operation," he concluded In his announcement an-nouncement of the two new NYA defense work experience centers. |
