Show . 4 Politics And Things Politics are gradually getting warmer as the date approaches for the nomination primary which will be held throughout the county September 13. As the Republicans on the county ticket have no opposition for nomination, they will not be voted on until the general election November 8. The Democratic county ticket presents a little different picture. There is opposition within the party for the party patronage. The present office holders are all candidates to succeed themselves. Clerk Newell J. Crookston, Attorney Attor-ney L. E. Nelson and Mrs. Elinor Hodgson, county recorder, have no opposition for nomination at the primary election, therefore, their names wilt not appear on the primary ballot. They will be voted on at the general election in November. Commissioners Worley and Chambers as well as Sheriff Stowell, fere candidates to succeed suc-ceed themselves. They are making mak-ing a bid for a third term and stand on their records of faithful service in making their campaign. These men are opposed for nomination nom-ination by A. Lee Reese of Logan Lo-gan Dr. J. Morris Godfrey of Richmond, and J. Carl Moon of Hyrum. From Smithfield the word has been brought to this office that men working on the highways in the north end of the county have formed a "Workers' Alliance" and are campaigning for the return of Commissioner Chambers to succeed suc-ceed himself. There is a three-way contest among the Democrats for the office of-fice of county treasurer. M. T. Beck, present office holder, has opposition from Osmond O. Jor-gensen Jor-gensen and Ben H. Roberts. Unless Un-less one of these candidates receives re-ceives a majority of the votes cast at the primary, election, there will be a run off primary held September 27, at which time the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes at the first primary, will battle it out for the nomination. The candidate receiving the highest vote at the run-off primary will be the Democratic Dem-ocratic candidate for county treasurer. Serge C. Ballif, campaign man- : ager for Commissioner Vern Muir at the Logan city election last fall, has filed to give opposition to R. A. Stewart, present county assessor. James A. McMurrin and Professor Henry Peterson are each seeking the Democratic vote , . tor nomination as state senator from Cache. Professor Peterson was a member of the state legis-alture legis-alture at the last session. Mr. McMurrin has been Democratic county chairman. City Attorney Leon Fonnesbeck and Carl W. Sanders, Logan busi- l ness man, are the candidates for the state legislature fromi Cache District No. 1. |
