Show Richmond Club Takes Prize Baseball Funds FRANKLIN, Idaho Richmond's Rich-mond's entry in the little world series baseball tournament walked walk-ed away with the sixth annual title and $50 in prize money Sunday evening after defeating Clarkston 10 to 9. Clarkston, the underdogs surpriesd the stands by holding Richmond to seven runs until the ninth inning. Richmond batters went to the mound in the last half of the ninth with a two-point two-point disadvantage and knocked out three runs to win by a one-point one-point margin. The playing of Otis Plant, who made five hits in six trips to the plate and converted three of them to runs, was sensational. Both teams experimented with pitching combinations. Clarkston collected collect-ed $30 in prize money as runner-up. runner-up. Each team scored a home run. Smithfield won the $20 purse for taking third place, cutting Weston out of the money class altogether al-together by way of an 11 to 9 victory. In me consolation flight, Lew-iston Lew-iston took home the $5 purse as Payment for victorv over Cnrnish 13 to 7. D. Wheeler and G. and H. Bair of Lewiston dominated play, making three hits each. Bench and Bingham of Cornish each made two. Stands were filled with enthusiastic en-thusiastic hometown rooters. The majority was clearly for Clarkston Clark-ston in the title ysme. Rulon Mitchell and Bill Bennett Ben-nett officiated at ail games of the double elimination tourney, which opened Friday. |
