Carlsruh Visits Panguitch Elementary Students PANGUITCH Popular author Dan Carlsruh visited the 4th grade class at Panguitch Elementary School where he talked about his latest book, about being an author and discussed how students are authors already. Earlier in the school year, Janis Henrie's fourth grade class read "The Cannibals Of Sunset Drive," written by Carlsruh. The book was inspired by Carlsruh' s early years as a boy, growing up in Milwaukee, Wise. Carlsruh lived by a monastery monas-tery with a high wall around it and found it frightening and intriguing, thus inspiring him to write his book. The class enjoyed the book and each student prepared a book report and presented it to the class. Misty Gray, a fourth grade student, wrote a letter to the author and he responded, re-sponded, saying he would like to come and spend time with the students. stu-dents. Carlsruh's book is about a young boy who is told by his mother to take some homemade bread and "pin, gooey stuff (honey)", to an old monk at the monastery. The boy does not want to, but does it anyway. The old monk shares the bread and honey with the boy as the story develops. The class and author Carlsruh also made homemade bread, honey and lemonade to share. Carlsruh is planning on visiting again next year. |
