Show Panguitch City Council Meets PANGUITCH The Panguitch Pan-guitch City Council met on May 8 to discuss their local issues. Those present at the meeting were Mayor Jon Lee Torgerson, City Manager Allen K. Henrie, City Recorder Cindy B. Johnson, City Council members Mack Oetting, Janet Oldham, Old-ham, Greg Payne, Rick Swanger, and Attorney Wallace A. Lee. Council member Denny Orton was out of town. Upcoming Meetings Diane Houston was in attendance atten-dance at the public affairs meeting on city cleanup to see if there is anything she and the LDS Church can do to help on June 16. The city will not be going on private property this year. If a citizen has something to be removed, they must have it placed in the rights-of-way. The pick up will start at 8 a.m. and continue until completed. Panguitch City will be providing lunch. The city will ask if each LDS (See CITY COUNCIL on pg. 3-A) CITY COUNCIL From Front Page ward will coordinate with those people in their ward who need assistance moving items out to the righis-of-way. Also to have people in their ward clean up the area. Residents must be aware that if there are items they don.t want hauled away, those items must be removed from the city's rights-of-way. Budget 20012002 Tentative Approval The total revenue for the 20012002 is $1,440,753.00 in the General Fund. The total expenses for the year are $1,440,753.00. This includes using $113,008.00 of surplus funds for capitol projects. The total revenue on water is $196,500 and the total expenditures for water are $196,500. The total revenue on sewer is $216,500 and the total expenditures for the sewer are $216,500. Fire chief Dave Dodds and Justin Hatch were in attendance to go over the fire department budget with the council. The council, by unanimous vote, approved the tentative budget of $196,500.00 for the water, a budget of $216,500.00 for the sewer and a budget of $1,440,753.00 for the general fund 20012002 fiscal year. The motion passed with all in favor. The council by unanimous vote set June 12, at 7 p.m. as the date for the public hearing. Babe Ruth Baseball Jane Excell was seeking donations for the Babe Ruth Baseball program. For their service project, Excell would like to make the teams clean up the baseball park and restrooms after each game. She is willing to . oversee this project and make sure it is accomplished. By unanimous vote, the council donated $500 to the Babe Ruth Baseball program conditional upon a cleanup campaign designed by Jane Excell with an award at the end of the season for the cleanest team. The motion passed with all in favor. Social Hall There are approximately 70 chairs at the social hall. Mayor Torgerson suggested purchasing 20 more immediately to get started. Twenty chairs would cost approximately approx-imately $750. Mack Oetting a light for the outside front of the social hall was needed. With all in favor, the council voted to purchase the 20 chairs and a light for the social hall at a cots of $200 less. (See CITY COUNCIL on pg. 4-A) CITY COUNCIL From Page 3-A Dump Truck The city dump truck has been down at Bob Orton Trucking since August of 2000. Bob Omon informed Allen Henrie that the dump truck cannot be repaired. The council voted unanimously to look at a UDOT-owned to 1984 Ford Cummins with a sander and a plow for $8,000. Mountain Bike Festival Allen Henrie reported on the possibility of a mountain bike festival here in Panguitch. Allen Henrie, Bruce Fullmer and Joe Decker met with a gentleman who has been in charge of a mountain bike festival, which brought in over 200 mountain bikers. The event would be held Aug 2-5 2-5 and will take a little money for advertisement of the event. Rick Swanger moved, seconded by Mack Oetting to approve up to $500 for advertisement of the event. The motion passed with all in favor. (See CITY COUNCIL on pg. 6-A) CITY COUNCIL From Page 4-A Inmate Salary The council decided to go into executive session with this item. After the session, the item was tabled until further communication with Commissioner Maloy Dodds. Lease Of Industrial Park Land For Pasture Because of interest in leasing property at the industrial park for pasture the council voted unanimously unan-imously to put out a portion for bid. Main Street Streetscape Schedule Mayor Torgerson and Allen Henrie expressed concerns with the proposed schedule. They feel the time line presented by Sunrise Engineering is off by a couple of months. Henrie will call and visit with Sunrise Engineering regarding the time line and suggest the dates of June 13, 19 or 20 for the public hearing open houses. . Mayor Torgerson Tor-gerson explained his concerns and does not feel the city will be ready for the public hearing open houses in May. The council unanimously set tentative dates for the scoping meeting at June 13, 19 or 20, 2001. Baseball Comples Lights were scheduled to be on for May 3. One of the new coils burned up, but everything else should work. Allen Henrie is doing some investigation on a portable mound. Mutlipurpose Event Center There is progress being made. On Saturday, May 5, there were 20 stalls put in. The county is getting the sand mixture in the arena. Things seem to be coming along well. There substantial discussion on event use and fees, and stall rental. Department Reports Lighting Mack Oetting and Greg Payne have been working on the lights. The two expressed appreciation for the use of Jamie Veater's tree-trimming tree-trimming truck. Trees One hundred trees were planted at the cemetery. Store Road The road behind the stores will soon be worked on. Scholarships The Panguitch City scholarships scholar-ships and the Karen Breinholt scholarship were a bit confusing for the students. The school counselor handed out the form with an incorrect due date. Airport Allen K. Henrie met with Ron Theobold regarding some unfinished items out at the airport. The city owes Creamer and Noble $20,000 that needs to be paid as soon as possible. Canyon Country Complex Tables and chairs are needed for the new Multi-Purpose Event Center |
