Show Grant Helps Rid Vacant Lot Of Unsightly Weeds Verlaine Matthews began work . this, week on the vacant lot north of Panguitch High School, with improvements im-provements to include a sprinkler system, grass and shrubs. Matthews' salary is being paid through Community Service Block Grant funds made available through the Five County Association of Governments. The $1,280 grant is being handled through the local Job Service office. Materials and supplies are being purchased largely through funds k raised by donation throughout the j community over the past several months. The project is due for completion in late September. Nida Mae Jensen at the Job Service Ser-vice office worked with Laurel Holman of the Garfield County School District Office to get plans underway for the project which will be supervised by Dennis Johnson. Matthews, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Verl Matthews, earned a bachelors degree at Utah State University Uni-versity and recently earned a teaching teach-ing certificate at Southern Utah State College. She is also cooking for the senior citizens in Panguitch at the Senior Citizens Center. |
