Show Utah Farm Bureau Seeks Oldest Farm And Longest Member In Local Contest To help the Utah Farm Bureau Federation celebrate it's 75th anniversary, an-niversary, the Garfield County Farm Bureau is holding a contest to locate the person with the most years of membership in Farm Bureau Bu-reau in this area, and the oldest farm in single family-line ownership owner-ship in the county. According to Anthony Coombs, president of the Garfield County Farm Bureau, Farm Bureau members locally are being invited to enter these contests, in an effort to surface winners in these two contests. "We believe there may be some people in the county who have been members of Farm Bureau as many as 40-45 years," Coombs said. "The number of years of Farm Bureau membership do not need to be consecutive. We're simply looking look-ing for that person who has the greatest total number of years of membership." Coombs also said all farmers and ranchers in the area, whether Farm Bureau members or not, are encouraged to enter the contest to find the oldest farm in a single family-line ownership. To be eligible, eli-gible, the farm must have remained in the hands of the same family line, from father, to son or daughter, daugh-ter, to son or daughter, and so forth. Assumption of ownership by an aunt, uncle, cousin, or in-law would render the farm ineligible to win. "Utah was settled in 1847, and many farms and ranches were established within five years or so thereafter," Coombs said. "We believe be-lieve some of these long-time single-line family farms may be in our county, and we want to find the oldest of these," he said. All entries, which have been mailed to farm and ranch members, or may be picked up from Farm Bureau Bu-reau Insurance offices, must be returned re-turned to the county president by October 25, to be eligible. Only those entries mailed in or otherwise other-wise received by the county by that date will be considered for the awards. The decision by the county Farm Bureau is final. At the conclusion of the contest, con-test, local winners will be selected and awards presented. Local winners win-ners will then be entered in the state contest, with state winners being announced at the 75th annual meeting of the Utah Farm Bureau Federation, November 20-22, in Salt Lake City.
