Show Escalante Chat Marilyn Jacson Mother Nature tricked many into believing it was summer. Just as the first cutting of hay was down, it rained, bringing cold wind and attesting to the fact that we will still have to wait for summer. Claron Griffin is recuperating after falling from a tree he was pruning. Wife Ruby gave him comfort as she was also homebound with the flu. Many visitors were seen during the Memorial Day weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Metz Lay were here. Hulda Deuel Spencer, Jessie Heaps Giles and Afton Church were visiting friends and family. Betty Schow and Vivian Collard visited with their relatives while reconditioning the Shurtz home for new renters. The Porter family reunion was held with a large crowd in attendance. Every family branch was represented. This year they honored Adelia Roundy. Mr. and Mrs. Vergean Porter had all of their family home for Clint's graduation. Sloan brought his family from Vernal, Virginia and family came from Summit, and Kevin and family from Cedar City. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Kuhns received word of the tragic death of their son who was shot while working as a security guard at a truck freight depot in California. Thelma Marsh went to Cedar City to attend graduation exercises for her grandson, Glen Woolsey. Dr. and Mrs. Warren Woolsey were chosen to help chaperone the graduating class to Disneyland and Thelma stayed to tend the other children until their return. Relatives received word of the death of Bruce Hill in Texas. His sisters, Janis Gledhill and Debbie Lyman flew to be with their family. The graduating class of 1960 will hold its 23-year reunion on July 4. Jay Brooks is recuperating following a swather accident in which his upper arm was cut. The Edward Wilcock reunion was held with nearly 75 in attendance. Mr. and Mrs. Homer George, Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Cottam, Leonard Cottam, and Thelda Millett and daughter LaGean were here for it. Also attending were Rosemary Palmer, Mr. and Mrs. Garlan Mitchell, Mr. and Mrs. John Weigel, Virginia Bauer, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Alvey, Vila Fender and Carlyle Shurtz. Mr. and Mrs. Kent Robinson are parents of a baby boy to be named Andrew Vernon, after his grandfather and great-grandfather. He is welcomed home by three sisters.. Geneal Chatterton visited with Isabell Spencer. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Prentice have had the ground cleared near the headhouse for their new home. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Jackson visited family in Torrey and attended the Jackson and Morrill family reunions. The Mounteer sisters, Myrna, Peggy, Carol and Marva returned home and reported that Louise is improving. Mr. and Mrs. Danny Spencer have a new granddaughter born May 28 to daughter Audrey in Mesquite, Nv. This is their 13th grandchild. Great-grandparents are LaRue Spencer and Mr, and Mrs. Ronald Schow. The Escalante High School held an awards assembly, E-day and graduation celebrations. New cheerleaders are Michelle Simons, Trisha Coughlin, Stephanie Griffin and Tenisa Grade. Student Body officers include Michelle Simons, president; Melanie Griffin, vice president; and Tenisa Gracie, secretary. The sixth grade class was treated to breakfast and a graduation program sponsored by the PTA. Mr. and Mrs. Sharon Dale Marsh attended the wedding of her mother Evelyn Heap and Eiihu Whatcott in the St. George IDS Temple. The family had oeen visited by Mr. and Mrs. Loris Marsh of Brigham City. Swimming lessons will be available to interested persons over five years of age from June 3-14 in Panguitch. The bus will leave at 8 a.m. from the high school. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Christian are chaperoning the trips. Sunday the Primary was reorganized, releasing Leslie Venutl as president, Shirley Marsh and Patrice Cottam as counselors and Marilyn Woolsey as secretary. Sustained were Barbara Reynolds as president; Doneen Griffin and Carrie Woolsey as counselors nad Linda Carter, secretary, Three babies were blessed Sunday: Kristy Lay, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Steed; Brennan Michael, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Griffin and Scott Wade, son of Mr. and Mrs". Wade Beebe. - Mr. and Mrs. Glen Hallows and Cherie's mother, Erma Smith were visitors at the Ron Beebe home for the occasion. Many family members and friends were here for funeral ser vices for Ray Griffin. Carol Simons Is recovering from surgery. Lucille Cowles Is in the IDS hospital recovering from surgery. We will all be happy when she's well again and home writing the news. |
