Show Three Nabbed in Mai or Garfield Drug Bust Garfield County Sheriff Vic Mlddleton, left, reviews and inventories over $100,000 worth of confiscated drugs with Detectives Kent Lindquist and Doug Morck of the Moab Police Department. Bust was one of biggest ever made in county. Two men and a woman were arrested May 29 at 5:15 p.m. near the Red Canyon Indian Store on Utah Highway 12 near the junction of U.S. 89 in what is being termed as probably the largest confiscation of drugs and other stolen materials in recent Garfield County history, Arthur Ricky Rottini, 28; his wife, Terry, 28; and Kenneth Nash, 20; all Salt Lake City were arraigned Tuesday in Richfield in Tenth Circuit Court before Judge Louis Tervort. They are being held in Garfield and Kane County jails; Rottini on $35,000 bail and his wife and Nash on $25,000 bail each. A 12-year-old juvenile taken into custody when the three were arrested was placed in a temporary foster home. I The three were charged with (possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, possession of burglary tools, carrying concealed weapons, possession of stolen property and failure to heed an officer's stop warning. Middleton stated that close to $100,000 in pharmaceutical drugs, three loaded firearms, over $3,000 in Indian jewelry, and alleged burglary tools have been inventoried. "The full extent of the alleged activities of the trio may take some time to discover," said Middleton, who is heading up the continuing investigation following the arrest. Moab City detectives Doug Morck and Kent Lundquist are working closely with Middleton since there appears to be a connection between the drugs confiscated and drugs stolen in Moab, some of which had been earmarked for destruction as old and unstable. Activities leading up to the arrest began with a report of several auto burglaries at Bryce Canyon National Park. Park authorities notified the Garfield County Sheriff's office at 4:25 p.m. and approximately 30 minutes later, Deputy Pete Sawyer, traveling east on Highway 12 spotted a suspect vehicle with four occupants traveling west. Turning around Sawyer, with red lights, pursued the vehicle and, calling for backup, was reinforced by Utah Highway Patrol troopers Otho Bulkley and Craig Twitchell. The stop was made at Red Canyon Indian Store, a cursory inspection made, suspects placed under arrest and materials confiscated. Twitchell stated that several recent burglaries may have been solved by the apprehension of the suspects. |
