Show Panguitch Scouting Was Successful During '84 Panguitch District Scout Chairman Norman McKee reports that 1984 was very successful in terms of scouting achievement in the district. As of December 1984, 310 boys were registered cubs, scouts, varsity; scoutS or- explorers in the" Panguitch District. The total represents 92.5 percent of all available boys ages 8 to 18 served by the district in the Piute County-western Garfield County area. During 1984, 10 boys reached the highest rank of Eagle scout. In addition, three scouts went on to earn a bronze palm and one boy earned the 15 additional merit badges required for' a silver palm. Two Panguitch boys, Carson laxshall. and Pale. Ipson, were also awarded their varsity Vcoutletterl, Scouts earning Eagle during the year were Cody Baldwin, Weston Christensen, John Holman, Daniel Ipson and David Henrie all of Panguitch. Antimony scouts Todd Krietzer and Terrel DeLange were honored as Eagles, as were Jonathon Blackwell and Tony Hawes of Marysvale. Circleville scout Dahl Dalton also earned the coveted award. The 10 new Eagle scouts now join approximately 100 others of the Panguitch District who' have earned the Eagle badge during the past seven years. In addition to the Eagle awards, 18 scouts received the Scout badge; 34, tenderfoot; 35, second class; 26, first class; 16, star and 12, life badges. A total of 452 merit badges were awarded in the district during 1984. Not to be outdone, the cub scouts of the district also were very active. Thirty-nine bobcat awards were made, 37 wolf, 2 bear, and 18 webelos. Twenty-five boys earned i the highest award of cub scouting,' ', the Arrow of Light. Recently, at the annual district awards banquet held in Panguitch, several outstanding scout leaders were recnoglzed for their dedicated service. The District Award of Merit went to Sharon Whittaker, Cir-cleville for service to scouting. Virgil Anderson of Panguitch, Drew Kreitzer of Antimonay, and Mervin Barnhurst of Hatch were also recognized with the district Second-Miler awards. , McKee expressed appreciation to everyone in the area who had contributed to the success of ' J scouting in 1984 and pledged another rf'Banneryear for 1985; " Democrats Set Meet Wednesday The Garfield County Democratic Convention will be held Wednesday, May 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Garfield County courthouse in Panguitch, Donna Peterson, chairwoman, announced today. The meeting will be held in the new corvtroom. Election of delegate to the state convention will take place and a new county chairman, vice chairman and secretary-treasurer will also be elected. Current party officers are Peterson, Panguitch; Ray Christain, vice chairman, Escalante; and Debra Pollock, secretary-treasurer, Panguitch. Peterson urges all party members to attend. |
