Canyon ' : 4 '; Lumber Truck Accident Claims Panguitch Man Rescue workers prepare to attach cables to wrecked lumber truck In an attempt to right cab and extricate driver, killed in mishap. Apparent load shift is thought to be cause of accident which happened near tunnel in Red Canyon on Utah Highway 12. A 26-year-old Panguitch native was killed in a lumber truck accident in Red Canyon, approximately 12 miles southeast of Panguitch, Saturday, at approximately 11 a.m. Dennis Lee Henrie died instantly from injuries received when his load apparently shifted, causing the 18-wheeler to overturn on a curve on Utah Higahway 2 at the easternmost tunnel in Red Canyon. The accident was reported to the Garfield Memorial Hospital shortly after 11 a.m. by Mrs. Keith Moore of Panguitch. Mr. and Mrs. Moore, traveling east on Highway 12, were between the two Red Canyon tunnels when they noticed what appeared to be a dust storm in the east tunnel. As they drove through they saw the truck turned on its right side. Mrs. Moore left her husband on the scene and returned to the Red Canyon Indian Store five miles west of the accident scene and called the hospital. Ambulances were dispatched from the Bryce area and from Panguitch to the site of the accident. Trooper Otho Bulkley of the Utah Highway Patrol and Officer1 Than Cooper of the Panguitch Police Department were also dispatched to the scene. Two two trucks were required to right the tractor. A fire truck, was later called for assistance in cleanup and fuel flow control. Bob McCullough, Operations Officer for Garfield County Emergency Medical Technicians was in charge of emergency procedures. y Denny Orton, Commander of the Garfield County Sheriffs Jeep Posse and his patrol members assisted in traffic control and in the emergency aspects. Henrie left his wife, the former Chris Tebbs, and two small boys. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Henrie also reside in Panguitch. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 7 at the Panguitch LDS stake center. |
