Show U of U Grant To Assist Students in Law Program The University of Utah College of Law had received $63,000 grant to host a regional summer Institute for disadvantaged students Interested In obtaining a legal education. Under the grant awarded by the Council on Legal Education Opportunity some 35 college students from Utah and surrounding states will be selected to attend the Institute Juint 9 - July 18 at the U law school. Purpose of the summer program is to provide students from economically or educationally disadvantaged groups with a better opportunity of attending law school, explains Ms, Linda Neilson, administrative assistant for the U undergraduate law progream. "Traditional admission standards and other evaluators may not adequately test the portential of these Individuals," she says, adding that "a summer Institute may provide a more accurate appraisal of their abilities." In addition, the Institute will expose the students to the Intellectual rigors of law school and enable educators to assit them In correcting any educational deficiencies, she says. Participants will receive tree room and board as well as a small living stipend. Upon completion of the institute, they will be enrolled at one of the five law schools, involved In the program and will receive a $1,000 stipend each year they are in school. Director of the U institute will be C. Benjamin Moya, associate professor of law. Participating law schools include the U of U, Brigham Young University, University of New Mexico, Arizona State University, and the University of Arizona. Application deadline for the summer institute is March 31, and Interested persons must take the standard law school admission test by February 8.
