Show Escalante cmi unat Fay Alvey We had some snow but it was accompanied by a terrific wind, so we could not tell how much. The flu big Is still active but so far folks are surviving. Angela Brooks was not as badly hurt as was feared. She had a broken wrist, some rather deep cuts and many bruises, but is home and able to walk around. The car Is a total wreck and it was the new one. Lloyd Alvey is home feeling much better. The long weekend brought many people here to visit relatives. The Lovell Twitchells had Beth and Rotis Coleman and family of Richfield, Oreletta Clutter and boys of Las Vegas. Blake Robinson had Ben and Renee Porter of Provo and Ruth Baugh of Tropic. Blake also has Mont Heap here to care for the horses. The Que Porters had his brother Max, wife Shirley and their son, Danny who recently returned from a Canadian mission. The Rodney Cottams had son Boyd. The Clyde Spencers had Talmage and Venice Taylor from Sandy. The Griffins, Bill, Boyd, Trudy and the kids came from Price. Quinn Griffin brought Donene to spend two weeks with her parents, the Robert Listons. Some citizens went elsewhere for, the long weekend. Chester and Ruth Lay went to California. The Theron Mitchells, Judy Brooks and boys went to Cedar City. Lynn and Mildred Gates, Doyle and Thelma Cottam went to Salt Lake City. Francis Imlay went to Vernal for employment and is trying to rent a house so he can move his family. He brought them here for the weekend at the Frank Imlays. Glen and Coleen Imlay were here from Delta dividing their time between the Frank Imlay and the Daniel Cowles homes. Nell Barker had a full house for the weekend. Daughter, Gayla Cardon came from St. George bringing her sons, Bruce and Phillip and their friend, Troy Cannon, daughter, Susan and friend, Lisa Cheeney all of St. George. They started home Sunday but turned back because of the snow. Elwood and Vaunda Willis and family of Richfield got up in the early a.m. and came here in time for Sunday School. They visited at the Ivan Willis home. Blake Robinson had a visit from his brother, Lynn. . Amanda Marriage of (Panguitch spent another day here Interviewing people over 60. She brought Ruby Roe and Vickie Davis again. She accompanied me to DUP meeting which was fairly well attended in spite of threatening storm. The John Normans and daughter, Moniece went to Brigham City to visit John's father, Edward who has been ill. They went to Ogden to watch the cutter races and saw Ray Alvey's team place in the finals. The Ed Mitchells had son, Garlan and family here from Cedar City. The Mait Spencers had grandkids, Darrell and Michele here from Salt Lake City. Darrell just returned from an LDS Mission. The college kids we noticed home were the Alvey girls, Helen, Lucinda and Irene, Stewart Bailey, Julie Shurtz, Margo Gates and Brent Cottam. Evelyn Lyman was home from her school teaching Job In the northern part of the state bringing three friends, Katy Walton, Luann Smith and Linda Garrison. En route back they slid off the icy road near the Smith Ranch and were stuck in the mud but the state road men got them back and on their way. Thelma Smith, son, Boyd and daughter, Leah of Henrieville came for a day at the Hode Alvey home where Thelma makes herself very useful. The high school held their annual Sweetheart Ball with an orchestra called the "Rhumps" from Parowan. Terrle Alvey was queen with Brenda Shurtz and Natalie Bailey as attendants.. Noel Lyman was king with Johnny Alvey and Wayne Pollock attendants. Mostly young folks were in attendance. Baptismal services were held Saturday for Ray Lee Martin, Janis Gledhill and Janet Dodds. Lynn Button and Stan Munson had taught the girls the lessons and Lynn had the meeting In charge and did the baptizing. Talks were given by Shirlie Wilson, Evelyn Lyman, Minnie Davis and Wayne Button: Katy Walton played a violin solo accompanied by Evelyn. Ray Griffin confirmed his two granddaughters and Stan Munson Ray. Most of the crowd went to the Gledhill home for lunch. The Vergean Porter family seem to be having a streak of bad luck; their son, Kevin, who is on a mission got ran off the road on his bicycle and had to be patched up, then he was in a car wreck and had to go to the hospital for treatment. Last, shop and cut hut finger off. They took Mm to Cedar City to have him doctored. In sacrament meeting Sunday the program was put on by the Arnold Button family. Talks were given by Arnold, Leah, and Wayne reported his mission In Korea. He was In the native dress and talked some Korean which we hardly understood. Lynn gave the Invocation and Taylor the benediction. Katy Walton played her violin accompanied by Luann Smith. Sheriff Keith Fackerell and wife, Jerrle, were In town Friday. He spent his time with the local law men and she met me for visiting and Instructing. Stan Mikulewicz of Panguitch was also here visiting various people. Mr. and Mrs. John Norman announce the wedding of their daughter Lana. She exchanged vows last week In Ely with Steve Roberts, son of Mr. and Mrs. McKay Roberts of Richfield. They will live In Richfield where she is attending school and he is training horses. George Washington Is a legend the story is retold how he chopped down the cherry tree, then in a manner bold said he could not tell a lie and that quote brought him fame, the virtue of honesty is coupled with his name.
