Show Summer Time Residents Assist in Heart Fund Cecil E. and Ruth Knowlton Martinez Lake, after reading in the Garfield County News about the appointment of Mrs. Hazel Houston as chairman to the Garfield County Heart Fund, again this year, responded with a note saying, 'As a part time resident of Panguitch I would like to contribute to the heart fund for 1975.' The Knowlton have purchased the old Jim Daly home where they reside during the summer months. Mrs. Houston urge all other summer residents who are interested in contributing to the fund to send their check or contributions directly to her. The following ladies were appointed area chairmen and will head the efforts of the volunteers in their communities, for the Garfield County heart Fund drive to be conducted during February; Mrs. Doyle Moosman, Boulder; Mrs. Ron Beebe, Escalante; Mrs. Ira LeFevere, Henrieville; Mrs. Alma Fletcher and Mrs. Jeff Rucker, Cannonville; Mrs. Lester Clarke, Tropic; Mrs. Mayo Rich, Bryce Canyon and Mrs. Bill Duckett, Hatch. The American Legion Auxiliary under the direction of Mrs. Houston and Mrs. Gerb Allen will handle the drive in Panguitch. Local volunteers will join more than two million across the nation during American Heart Month when they visit the homes of friends and neighbors to distribute helpful heart literature and collect funds to support Heart Association Programs. Mrs. Houston said that heart and blood vessel diseases, the nation's number one killers, will claim more than a million lives this year. In addition, lost wages and medical expenses resulting from these diseases will cost the nation an estimated $20 billion in 1975. |
