Hayden Nielsen pitched a complete game, allowing just one run on four hits, with five strikeouts in seven innings pitched. "Hayden Nielsen threw outstanding," said Dons' Coach Jim "Shoe" Nelson. "[He] was in total command, total control the whole game, and that was the story of the game." }: While Coach "Shoe" praised Nielsen's performance, Nielsen himself preferred to give credit to his teammates. "We have a great defense, and I just trust my defense, and they made some great plays for me," said Nielsen. The win came on the heels of two wins against Springville earlier in the week, a 12-2 thrashing at home on Tuesday, and a 10-0 route at Springville on Wednesday. The stands Friday were a little emptier than usual, due to wind and cold temperatures. The sky was overcast for most of the game, but the absence of rain meant the same was able to continue as scheduled. On offense, the Dons recorded 11 total hits, and scored at least one run every inning. Coach Shoe said, "We "didn't hit the ball as well as we have been, but a lot of that has to do with the weather, and as cold as it was. But, in fairness to our hitters, we hit a lot of balls hard for outs today. You know, there's some things in this game you can't control, and hitting the ball right at people is one of them." One of the offensive highlights for Don fans was a Kayden Porter solo home run in the sixth inning, giving Spanish Fork their ninth andfinalrun. Overall Coach Shoe said he was "really pleased with the performance; pleased with the consistency offensively, because we scored every inning. And, as a coach, if you can put numbers up every inning, you can have a good chance to win." -, .t- i"^ fit .• - , . . ,._•, ", - j . _ •~jt-':.~* " i / l 4^fcaT^::^U' " ~Z*?z~'~~ V \*V T ~^ v * i « Shane Marshall / The Sentinel PITCH AND CATCH: SF's Hayden Nielsen, above, pitched a complete game vs. Payson, allowing just one run.
