Sanpete Michael Richardson STAFF WRITER On Thursday, March 25, the ALA Eagles played soccer against the Salem Hills Skyhawks. The Eagles started well, but as Salem started scoring, ALA seemed to lose their energy. In the end it was the Skyhawks who came out on top, winning the game 4-0. In the first half, the Eagles were able to keep the Skyhawks from scoring until Michael Christensen, a junior at Salem Hills, scored the first goal of the game assisted by Michael Bracetti. Throughout the rest of the half, ALA and Salem both struggled to score, but despite their efforts the score at the end of the half was still 1-0. Salem scored again after a few minutes into the second half, when Payden Pemberton found the net for the Skyhawks. Pemberton scored another goal midway through the second half, making the score 3-0. The frustrated Eagles struggled to pick up the pace, but they were starting to get discouraged. They came close to scoring a few times, but it seemed that nothing was going their way. ALA continued working on their defense, but the Skyhawks managed to break through just before the end of the game as Jordan Daniels, assisted by David Clare, scored a fourth point for the Skyhawks. ALA struggled again to score before time ran out, but Salem kept them from doing so before the end of the game. "I honestly didn't like the game at all," said ALA Coach Steve Solen. "We had no intensity, and we put no heart into it. Our team has a lot of individual skill, but we don't work very well as a team, and it's on my shoulders to fix that." Salem's Head Coach Lee Gillie was proud of the Skyhawks' performance in the game. "We started out slow, but once we got going, we played a beautiful game," he said. "We came together as a team, and because of that we came out with a win. I'd like to see more urgency, more intensity out of them, though." Maple Mountain's offense also showed strong throughout the game. Riley Dinehart, the top scorer for the team, had a hat trick with three goals. The other two goals were scored by Golden Eagles Hector Mancia and Bradley Clawson. "This game was good for us as a team," said Coach Klauck. "It was good to come together as a team and stop playing as individuals. No one played selfishly."
