His mother, Shirley, played lacrosse as a young girl in the East, where this sport has been played for generations. Another high scorer for the team, and one of the team captains, is Freddie Davis, son of Fred and Nicole Davis. Freddie is a leader for the team as well as a straight-A student and Eagle Scout. Also worthy of mention is Shawn Rowley, team goalie, whose strength at the net is outstanding. All members of the team are required to maintain good grades and good sportsmanship. The J V team opened the first inning by getting three straight strikeouts from pitcher Colton Hill. Salem got a home run early to set the tone for the Skyhawks, who ended the first inning up 9-0. The closest Payson would ever get to scoring would be the top of the second. With Hill still pitching, Payson was able to load the bases with only one out. Hill composed himself and then proceeded to strike out the next two batters. Over the next four innings Salem would add to their run total. The Skyhawks finally switched pitchers in the last inning, but they were still able to keep the shut out. They ended their last inning with a home run to win the match 20-0. Varsity was able to do nearly as well as their JV counterparts, as their pitcher Buddy Adams struck out the first eight batters for the Lions. They were score- less during the first two innings, but Salem was able to break away during third inning, going up by a score of 5-1. The fourth inning proved to be the gamebreaker though, as the Skyhawks had a 10-run inning to end the fourth up 15-1. Salem was then subbed their starting pitcher, allowing Payson to score three runs before the end of the game, winning by a score of 16-4. With the win the Salem Hills baseball team improved their record to 7-2. |
