Thanks again! I am a Farmers' Wife, There and Back Again Happiness is Homemade Marilyn M. Atwood It was a memorable day for me. Most women who are nine months pregnant would want to be in the hospital delivering their baby, but this Easter Sunday I didn't want to miss out. My family was having a birthday party for my parents, Milo and Virginia Moody. My dad turned 72 on April 5 and my mom was turning 68 on April 7. I thought it was a great plan to be celebrating the day in between. We weren't the only ones celebrating that day. April 6, 1980 was the Sesquicentennial of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After the special session of LDS general conference, we all headed to Provo where my sister, Patricia, was hosting the party. The Moody family always has wonderful food when they get together. I had made a special Easter treat to share, Chocolate Covered Marshmallow Eggs. Before I indulged in all the good food, however, I wanted to pass out the contest forms so family members could guess the baby's gender, birth date and birth weight. When it was time to eat I had lost my appetite. My chocolate eggs didn't even appeal to me. I noticed I was having a few contractions, but I had so much false labor with my last pregnancy that I wasn't concerned. But the contractions kept getting stronger and more regular. I soon realized I was really in labor, but if I announced it to everyone it would ruin the contest. I Marilyn Atwood / The Sentinel FIVE GENERATIONS: When Gavin Richard Atwood was born November 2006 t he was the fifth generation to have the name Richard. It started with Melvin Richard, who died in 1973. As we left, I told Mike I needed to pack my bags, and he knew what that meant. In less than two hours, our little browneyed boy was born at about 11:30 p.m. We named our Easter baby, Richard Milo Atwood. That was my best Easter Sunday ever. I was so happy to have my doctor daddy come over and check the little baby that would be named after him. On the Atwood side, he would be the fourth generation to have the name of Richard. The only thing that wasn't perfect about that day was I missed out on a lot of good food and didn't get to taste my marshmallow eggs. beating until thick. Set Chocolate Covered aside. I was excited for this next month's article because it was about the earthquake in Chile and how being prepared can make all the difference. I graduated from high school with some people who are serving as mission presidents there and they shared their story of preparing for the earthquake before it happened and the difference that it made. I had another article ready about how we should be using our 72 hr. kits for mini-disasters and getting to know what we really need. My favorite article, that I am getting ready to write, is going to be about substituting oil or shortening with beans-it's a good one-and the end products taste wonderful, but now, none of them will appear in the paper. It's too bad, but if you want to read them, all is not lost. For those of you who want to continue reading my articles, and keep being harassed about storing your water, don't worry-I'm going to continue writing my articles and posting them. I will post them at www. apreparedhome.com on a weekly basis, or even more often if I get the urge and the time. We have an RSS feed that will notify you each time an article is posted. For all of you who don't fully understand RSS feeds, like me, Nina (our loveable technological goddess), is going to write a post about how the RSS feed works and how you can participate. One advantage to reading my articles on the internet is that if you have any questions or comments, you can write and ask/ comment and get feedback quickly. Another good VIVA SPANISH FOE! thing is that if you want to read an article again, you can just visit A Prepared Home and re-read any article anytime you want. The sad thing about not publishing my articles in the paper is that we are losing a wonderful institution and reading the paper, for me, was intimate and comforting (I grew up pretechnological wonders). I will miss the paper, but I hope that I won't miss you and that we can continue to grow together in getting prepared, building our food storage-and for goodness sakes, Get your water stored! •at, r '©2010 Madirtgo L.LC.
