Show Jjfestyles A6 • WEDNESDAY, MARCH 31, 2010 Scouting awards Obituary Loa McKell Johnson Loa Johnson passed away Monday, March 22, 2010 at home. Loa was born on November 12, 1919 in Spanish Fork to Henry and Loa McKell. She graduated from Spanish Fork High School and attended a year at BYU. She met the love of her life, Ronald A. Johnson, at the grocery store where she worked. They were married August 5, 1941 in the Logan Temple and had two children: Janice (Ed) Hayhurst, of Haines, Ore.; and Richard (Anna Lee) Johnson, of Spanish Fork. They also have six grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Loa was always concerned about others and especially wanting to make sure they had plenty to eat. As the hospice nurses and care givers came, she would always check up on them to see if they wanted a pop, cookie, piece of cake or some form of nourishment. She was a great cook and worked for 25 years for the Nebo School District as School Lunch Supervisor. She was known all over the state for taking a program that was in the red and running it in the She and her sweetheart lived several years DISTRICT AWARDS: The highest award given on a district scouting level is "The District Award of Merit". Recently ten scouters in the Diamond Fork district were presented this award. Loa is survived by her husband, two children, six grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Alvin and Hannah Creer who raised her, two grandchildren, her parents Henry and Loa McKell, and her brother Robert. The family is grateful for the Hospice care givers and Dr. William LeRoy for all they did for Mom. Loa was honored at a graveside service on Saturday, March 27 at the Spanish Fork City Cemetery. His proud parents are Gary and Alece Nelson. Helping him celebrate were his big sisters, Taylor and Kenley; and big brothers, Ethan and Luke. His grandparents are Brent and Kathleen Hansen of Spanish Fork and Brad and JoAnn Nelson of Roosevelt. We love you, Brandt! given to sick children who are hospitalized for an extended amount of time. Tanner is in eighth grade at Diamond Fork Junior High. He enjoys playing a variety of instruments including trombone, oboe and piano. Tanner plays in the concert band and jazz band. Tanner plans to attend BYU in the future. Tanner is the son of Russell and Laura Henry. Troop 1539 is chartered by the Aspen Heights Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. To become an Eagle Scout, Tanner earned 22 merit badges and served his troop as historian. He also completed a major community service project. For his project, Tanner organized a blanket drive for the Pediatric Unit of the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo. He made several blankets himself and organized volunteers to make over 100 fleece blankets to donate. She was born in Provo but is now living in Tarrytown, N.Y. with her parents, Rachel Atwood and Kirk Hughes Johnson. Her older brother, Noah, is her best friend. Halle's grandparents are Mike and Marilyn Atwood and Doug and Jeanette Johnson of Salem. Great-grandparents are Dick and Darlene Atwood of Spanish Fork. She was named after her great-grandmother, Virginia Moody. American Legion American Legion of Unit 68 in Spanish Fork is planning a spaghetti dinner for Friday, April 16, 2010 at 6 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Building, 400 North 45 East, Spanish Fork.
