They spoke at the Liberty 1st Ward on April 21. Elder Jason D. Warnes, son of Mylan and Sue Warnes of Liberty, has been called to serve in the Singapore Mission. He spoke at the Liberty 3rd Ward on April 28. Sister Stacy Layton, daughter of Rod and Teresa Layton of Huntsville, will serve in the Arkansas Little Rock Mission. She spoke at the Huntsville 2nd Ward on April 28. Returning Missionaries Elder Tom Dickson, son of Doug and Tym Dickson of Liberty, served in the California Sacramento Mission. He spoke at the Liberty 2nd Ward, April 21, 2002. Elder Joshua Hawks, son of Monty and April Hawks of Liberty, served in the North Carolina Raleigh Mission. He spoke at the Liberty 1st Ward on April 21. Births Lori A. and John Mortensen of Eden had a baby boy on March 29, 2002. Kevin and Marlene Johnson of Eden had a baby boy on March 30, 2002. He weighed 10 lbs., 4 oz. His name is Tanner Kevin. Patrick and Chris Osmond of Eden had a baby girl on April 26, 2002. Kelly and Suzanne Amann, of Eden had a baby boy on May 1, 2002. He weighed 6 lbs., 6 oz., and was 20 inches long. His name is Spencer Matthew. Brook and Ivy Carver Adams of Harrisville, had a baby boy on May 7, 2002. He weighed 7 lbs. 3 oz. His name is Parker Brook. Birthdays Marker Lars K. “Cactus” Peterson Orba Jorgensen Larsen Mary Verna Peterson Marker celebrated her 80th birthday with a family dinner. She was born to Joseph and Anne Marie “Mary” Peterson on April 20, 1922, in Huntsville. She graduated from Weber High School in 1941. She married C. James Marker February 6, 1946, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They served an LDS Temple Mission in New Zealand from 1991 to 1993. Her interests and hobbies include oil painting, porcelain dolls, sewing, quilting, crocheting, flower gardening, genealogy, and serving as an ordinance worker in the Ogden LDS Temple. Her children and their spouses are James Dale and Tina Marker; Ellen and Howard Holt; Kathleen Brown; David Marker; Audrey and Steve Larsen; Debra M. Warden; and Douglas M. Marker, deceased. She has 24 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. NORTH OGDEN - Lars K. “Cactus” Peterson, 82, died Tuesday, April 30, 2002 at his home in North Ogden, following a brief illness. He was born December 2, 1919 in Malad, Idaho, a son of Elof Roger and Clara Jeppson Peterson. On July 28, 1941, Lars married Lila Mae Bullough in Pocatello, Idaho. Lila preceded him in death on March 25, 1994. He spent his youth in Huntsville and Ogden, graduating from Ogden High School. He received his Bachelor”s Degree from Utah State University, and Master’s Degree from U.C.L.A. Lars was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Navy aboard LST 218 in the South Pacific. He lived and began his teaching career in Soda Springs, Idaho and Lehi, Utah, prior to living in Ontario, Riverside and Brea, California from 1955 through 1971. He returned to Ogden in 1971 to continue his teaching career in junior high and high school. He retired in 1993. Lars was a member of the Golden Hours and the Oldies but Goodies Harmonica Bands. He collected antique sheet music and enjoyed doing leatherwork and listening to amateur musicians. One of the greatest enjoyments of his life was the time he spent fishing in Idaho. His ready smile and quick wit will be missed by all who knew him. Surviving are one son, Brian K. Peterson (Shauna R. Mayeda), Salt Lake City; and one granddaughter, Aimee K. Peterson, St. George. Lars is also survived by two brothers, Sheldon “Ted” Peterson, Luning, Nevada; Jerry Peterson, Redlands, California. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Maynard and Dean; and three sisters, Olive, Beth and Doris. Interment, Lindquist”s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. email condolences to the family at: lom@lindquistmortuary.com Orba Jorgensen Larsen died peacefully May 5, 2002 at the Logan Nursing Home. She was born October 6, 1903 in Huntsville, Utah to John Hans Jorgensen and Emma Rozina Allen. Her siblings and in-laws, Glen, Rolland (Amelia), Ivor (Lottie), Allen (May), Howard (Dorothy), Karen, and Chastina are all deceased except for May. She was married to Christian James Larsen September 18, 1934. Christian and his first wife, Alta May Porter had four daughters: Alta Porter Larsen Bodily (Asa - deceased), Sarabeth Larsen Wheeler (DeWilton - deceased) Simon (Victor), Ladeen Larsen Bingham (Wayne), and May Elaine Archibald (Eugene - deceased) Marcum (Al). Orba had four children: Claire (Jeanette) Larsen, John (Sandra), Emma Larsen Hunt (Lee), and Orba - deceased. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Always a good student, she completed elementary grades in Huntsville, then worked in a board and room for her own lodging and for tuition so she could graduate from Ogden High School. She obtained enough units from Weber College to begin teaching at elementary schools in Utah working at Burch Creek, West Weber, and Huntsville before retiring from teaching to marry Christian, a board member of the Glendale, Idaho school where she had also taught. Orba and Christian lived across reservoir and often rowed a boat to the school or the church. Their social life centered around the Glendale Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints and family. Both held several positions in the Glendale Ward, including Christian’s service as Bishop. In 1944 the family moved to Weston, Idaho. In October of 1945, Christian was hit by a train and killed while hauling sugar beets for a neighbor. Orba taught school from 1946 to 1968 in the Weston Elementary school, and continued her own education, graduating from USU with a B.S. in Young Womanhood The following recently received the LDS “Young Womanhood” Gold Medallion Award, which is given to young women who, through six years in the Young Women’s program, complete various projects for personal growth and church and community service: Amy Atkinson, 17, daughter of Blaine and Jeanne Atkinson of Liberty is a member of the Liberty 2nd Ward.
