Show Volume VI, Issue III THE OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Page 5 May 15, 2002 DEVELOPMENT cont. from page 1 Ogden Valley care about development in the Valley?” At the last Commission meeting held April 30, those who did take the time to attend the public meeting, had to wait almost five hours—from 5:00 to 9:45 p.m.—before the Powder Mountain issue was addressed as an agenda item. Because the building was scheduled to close at 10:00 p.m., only a limited number of individuals were allowed to speak, and comments were limited to about one minute. Members of the audience asked if a number of public meetings could be held in Ogden Valley to generate public dialogue on the proposal, with a variety of partners and specialists invited to attend and give input also. Members in the audience contended that because of the far reaching impact such a development would have on the Valley below, there should be a broader scope of community input. Petitioners of the Powder Mountain proposal met with members of the Ogden Valley Business Association (OVBA) at their last meeting held on May 8, presenting their plans for development on top of the mountain, trying to generate support from the Valley business community. After a member of the OVBA voiced concerns about the likelihood of being forced out of the Valley, due to rising property taxes generated by such a development, Petitioner replied that he hoped the residents of the Valley, who could no longer afford to stay here, would be able to find another place to live that would be almost as nice. Revisiting the proposal again May 21, the Powder Mountain issue will be placed at the top of the Planning Commissioner’s agenda this time. Residents are urged to attend the meeting to show and/or voice their support or opposition to the proposed Powder Mountain rezone. Ogden Marathon in the Ogden Valley Runners in the Ogden Marathon.
