Show Friday, December 15, 1989 Building Christmas Traditions by Clay and Colleen Vernon The Summit County Bee Christmas Is a Happy Time by Janalee Atkinson really depressed and lonely. They do not like feeling this way so they go out and do unwanted things like killing themselves or others. To me this is wrong. I think that people who have lots to give should look beyond themselves and lode at the ones who don't have as much. It has come to my attention that people who do kind things for others feel better as a person. Just as if you helped a person who needed help you would feel good just because you helped that person have more confidence in him or herself. Just a little hello or a Merry Christmas would help this person be happy and always remember the kind deed you have done. It is a fact that people do feel better after being touched with a special warmth from another human Christmas is one of the happiest times of the year for most people. There are some people wno are being. Many people do not understand how just a smile or a Merry Christmas can help a rugs so they wouldn't make any noise and maybe they would be able to sneak downstairs. But, they were always caught by mom and dad and sent back to bed. When Colleen thinks of Christmas as a child she remembers a few gifts but mostly the things they did as a family. There was always a little village under the Christmas tree and the kids could play with it. Each child had a favorite house that he would choose to be his own year after year. On Christmas Eve their family would go out to eat and then drive around to town and see the Christmas lights. The drive would finish up at the city light display. They would walk around the park to see the different displays. By the time they got home everyone was tired and easily went to bed As parents Clay and Colleen are j,,.. trying to do things as a family to make Christmas fun. They try to have the shopping done Mure December so that they can cmj.i the season more. Grandma Glade decided several years ago to keep the tradition of a village under the tree a part of each of her children's homes. She makes two or three items, houses, bams, or stores each year for each of her children. Colleen enjoys watching her own children play, as she did, with the Chris tmas village. The Vernons also enjoy driving around locally as well as in Salt Lake to see the Christmas lights. A tradition they have started in their family is to take turns putting a figurine in the nativity scene each day until it is complete. On Christmas Eve just before bed time they read the Christmas story from the Bible and put the Christ Child in the manger of the nativity scene. They hope this will help their children go to sleep remembering why we have Christmas. When Clay and Colleen are grandparents they hope their children will remember the things they did together at Christmas time as much or more than the presents they received. reading this article whould try at least one day out of this season to try and make another person feel good and that the rate of being low. lonely will drop to an e all-tim- Yuletide Lasagna Logs Makes 4-- 6 servings 6 lasagna noodles, cooked and drained 1 lb.
