The $150,200 represents the median of all pay levels reported by anesthesiologists, with half reporting figures less and half more, ranging from $77,500 to more than $250,000, Roth Young reports. The net salary represents income after deducting such expenses as personnel, liability insurance, office and medical equipment and supplies. Surgeons Get $141,600 Surgeons, the new survey discloses, show a median net 1983 income of $141,600. They were followed by radiologists, with a median of $135,250; cbstetricians-gynecolo-gistwith $133,600, and internal medicine specialists, $97,525. Physicians in general family practice reported median net pay of $84,185; psychiatrists, $82,390, and pediatricians $74,020. s, Among nursing staffs, nursing directors median pay was $38,300, ranging from $34,370 to more than $55,000. The range generally reflects W' the size of the facility in which the nursing personnel work, according to Roth Young. The lowest pay was reported in facilities with 250 beds or fewer, the median at facilities with 250 to 450 beds, and the highest pay at facilities with more than 450 beds. Nursing supervisors report median pay of $27,100; head nurses, $25,680, and general duty nurses, $22,080. Salaries Reflect Size Among hospital and health-car- e staffs, the survey found that wages and salaries similarly reflected facility size. Roherta Borer, vice president of Roth Youngs office in Culver City, Calif., said that increasing demand for health services boosted healthcare salaries at a substantially faster rate than those in other major industrial sectors.
