Planning of the renovation began in October 1975. and construction bids opened in January 1977. "There was a specific termination date" for the renovation, "approximately July 1978," said Jensen. The Field House had no structural damage, but Jensen attributed small delays to delivery of construction materials and "certain subcontractors were tied up in other projects." Jensen acknowledged that "material delivery delays are always encountered in a project of this scope (renovation)," but he said the University usually denies a deadline extension for minor delays. William Barton, representing general contractor Alder Construction, confirmed delays in receiving materials. He said some minor alterations were necessary due to the current use for the building.
