I saw a bunch of birds, Just sitting in a tree. That gave me a great idea, So I went and bought some seed, And built a hanging feeder, For those little birds to feed. I thought they'd come right away, But I had to wait awhile. That afternoon I peeked again, And what I saw made me smile. There was a black and white finch, Gulping down the food. That made me proud as a new mom, And put me in a terrific mood. "Mom, come and see," I yelled, Running down the hall. And when mom finally came, There were three sitting on the wall. Soon there were a lot of birds. Grouped around the seed. Now every day when I'm bored or sad, I look out the window and see all I need. My pet bird Pablo gets jealous, , And tries to scare the birds away . It's usually pretty funny, 'Cause it makes them more determined to stay. Suddenly there were too many. They overflowed onto the floor. Birds gobble down all the seed, So I have to buy some more. I started making piles of seed, So those birds wouldn't fight. But still those birds came, And ate with all their might. When the season turned to winter, The birds didn't like the snow. But that won't stop them, That much I know. Yes, those birds will keep coming, Through spring and through fall. Now I'm attached to those birds, Even though they are so small. I'll never forget to feed the birds, Because I know they depend on me. Birds are very amazing animals, That I can clearly see. " .Mi -&mmm rk mmmmm Subject to change Bank office. DIARY OF AN OLD GOLD RUSHER by Jared Jones, 6th Grade This story begins as early as I can remember. I was five years old and my name is James Cane. I lived out west in the so-called "Rockies" in a log cabin. There were four rooms in my housethe kitchen, the bedroom my brother and I shared, my mom's and dad's bedroom, and our dining room. Beside our house was a shed that held things like guns and picks for digging. We also had a small fence that held a beautiful black horse. I led a normal life until I was about 15 years old. That's when something bad happenedmy parents died of fever. My older and only brother, Dan Cane, went to get help. For days he didn't come back, so I decided to look for him so I wouldn't have to be on my own. I decided to dig for gold in mines to make money for my journey. Every once in awhile, I found a single, shining gold nugget. I somehow survived by digging, but whenever I looked at my hands they were full of red hard blisters. Well, one day when I went to exchange some more gold at the assay office, I found my brother. We were shocked to see each other! He told me that he was doing the same thing I was, digging. Once when my brother and I were digging together, rocks collapsed on him. When I finally dug him out, I noticed many wounds. But somehow he recovered. When we were about to give up on the digging job a few days later, I said, "Here goes the last time I'll we've included a chart to show you the existing rates and the premium rates for IRA CDs. Remember: if you withdraw money from a ' certificate before its maturity, matu-rity, an interest penalty is required by federal law. For more information about the increased rates you'll get on IRA CDs, call or visit the nearest Valley valley Central Bank ever swing this pick again!" And with that I swung hard against the rocks. Suddenly after the dust disappeared, I saw a glimmer, faint, but still a glimmer. I dug away rock after rock, and I finally Hey, kids!
