Show Consumer alert: illegal chain letter circulating The Division of Consumer Protection Pro-tection has identified an illegal chain letter in circulation among Utahns and is issuing a warning against participation. The letter and the $1 gamble required are circulated cir-culated by mail which is clearly against Utah's statutes. It further singles out women as the victims of the scheme. It is written as a flyer or bulletin with a headline which reads: "To the Women Friends in My Life Who Know How to Dream and Create Their Own Reality!" The copy following makes the claims that participation will get you $10,000 and that this is not an illegal il-legal letter. "Both of these statements are false," said Gary Hansen, director of the Division of Consumer Protection. Protec-tion. "In Utah chain letters are illegal il-legal pyramids, and participants can be prosecuted on third degree felony charges. The opportunity to make money through chain letters and other similar devices is an invitation in-vitation to break the law." Hansen urges all Utahns who receive this letter to decline participation par-ticipation and stop the movement of this chain letter through Utah. |
