Show F Skater survives near-fatal crash I ff; -A f "W - rife SALT LAKE CITY-- A hit-and-run driver has benched Davis High hockey prodigy Tyler Barton for the remainder of his sophomore year. Barton was in critical but stable condition in the intensive care unit at LDS Hospital, undergoing treatment for injuries suffered when a vehicle broad-sided the car he rode in on Thanksgiving, at 1300 S. 200 E. in Salt Lake City, his mother, La Von Barton, said Monday. Barton sustained a torn kidney, punctured lung and severe head injuries in-juries when a another car ran a stop sign and smashed into him, a Salt Lake City Police Department spokesman said. Investigating officers said the 1987 auto in which Barton and three companions were travelling south on 1300 South was pinned against a telephone pole by the oncoming vehicle. E Charges of failure to yield and hit-and-run were pending against t both occupants of the second car, police said. jj The Davis High star's condition improved substantially late Sun-D Sun-D day, after he had been unconscious for two days, Mrs. Barton told the I Clipper. I "Tyler is able to move now," she said. "He still has a little trouble with the motor control of his right side. He is recognizing L people but only has a short-term memory.
