Show Darts devastate Huskies By G.BRETT HART B OUNTTFULS purred on by Ryan Barton's inspired five-goal performance, the Davis Dart hockey team devastated a favored Hillcrest squad 10-2 on Saturday. Inspiration can come in many forms; for Barton, it came in the form of his brother and teammate Tyler who lay in intensive care at Salt Lake's LDS Hospital, the victim vic-tim of a drunk driver who plowed into the side of his vehicle late last Wednesday night. Barton and his fellow Darts vowed they would win this one for "Ty" whose name they proudly wore on their jerseys in remembrance re-membrance of their injured comrade. com-rade. Win is exactly what Davis did. By the end of the first period, Davis had jumped to a four-point advantage. advan-tage. At the end of the contest, the Darts had doubled that margin. Leading Davis offensively, Paul Anderson added three goals to Barton's Bar-ton's five. Fellow Darts Tim Udy and Ryan Larkin both contributed a goal apiece. In the assist category, Brian Davis distinguished himself as a ' 'playmaker' with three assists, and K.C. Fumess was credited with two. Davis' offense kept the Husky defense on its heels during the entire en-tire match, shooting 49 times on goal to Hillcrest's meager 16 shots. Defensively, the Darts smothered Hillcrest holding the Huskies to a single point until late in the third period. In spite of the win, penalties did plague the Darts. Davis usually averages about six penalties per game. Against Hillcrest the Darts were stricken with 12 penalties to the Huskies' six. Assistant coach Scott Barton gave Ryan Barton much of the credit for Saturday's win. "We didn't expect to beat Hillcrest," said Coach Barton. "Ryan had a lot to do with it. He was determined to win this one for Tyler. "This was the first time we really played like a team," added Barton. "We have a lot of good individuals, but we haven't played well together. Today we did. This may be a sign of things to come. ' Looking to the future, the Darts face Judge Dec. 1 at the Cottonwood Cotton-wood ice rink. Davis' confrontation with the Bulldogs is scheduled to begin at 1 1 a.m. Next, the Darts are scheduled to skate against the Taylorsville Warriors in Bountiful on Dec. 12 at 7:45 p.m; on Dec. 19, Davis will square off against the Murray Spartans in Bountiful at 6:15 p.m. Though Barton said he expects his Darts to win easily over all three opponents, he isn't looking past them either. Barton did say, however, that Davis has its eye on the Darts following the match against the Brighton Bengals. "Our biggest obstacle right now is Brighton. We're looking forward to that as a real test of how good we are. Brighton has taken state a number of times. " If we play like we did today and avoid penalties, we may have a shot," added Barton.
