Show House Fire danger up BOUNTIFULThe South Davis Fire District (SDFD) reported another an-other slow month from Oct. 29 through Nov. 26, with only 123 total calls and $7,500 in property loss from fires. SDFD Chief Brent Argyle said that the reduction in calls is traditional tradi-tional at this time of year, but he also pointed out to the board of directors di-rectors Monday that November and December usually show an increase in the number of building fires due to Christmas trees in homes and the r use of fireplaces and wood burning stoves in homes. "People start using their fireplaces when it gets cold, but they forget they've been sitting there all year," Argyle said. "We get a lot of these type of calls this time of year because the chimneys are clogged after a summer of neglect" ne-glect" Argyle said thanks to the quick response time of firefighters, however, the property damage from building fires has been held to a minimum. Though the total loss for the month has been assessed at $7,500, Argyle said the loss could have been as high as $706,000. The potential loss figure is derived from actual value of the endangered property and estimates of fire damage if it were allowed to run its course. In all, the district reported nine building fires, 13 total fires and 92 medical calls. |
