Show Geary teaches variety of art concepts ed a slide show. Wayne L. Geaiy has a B.A. degree in an history from the University Uni-versity of Washington in Seattle and an MFA degree in painting from the University of Utah. He has extensive experience in mural-painting mural-painting projects with students in both Utah and New Mexico, including in-cluding many art projects with handicapped han-dicapped students. He is currently an instructor for the University of Utah's Department Depart-ment of Continuing Education. He has had numerous exhibitions. Among an impressive list of grants, awards and commissions he was the recipient of the Salt Lake Arts Council grant for art projects with the Children's Museum of Utah. The artist in residence was sponsored spon-sored by the Utah Arts Council. All at Hannah Holbrook feel fortunate to have had this experience. The mural is an entertaining display of our students creative abilities and talents. The community is welcome to visit and enjoy the mural as those at Hannah Holbrook will for years to come. Students at Hannah Holbrook Elementary School had the recent opportunity of working with an ar-tist-in-residence, Wayne L. Geary. Under the supervision and instruction in-struction of this professional artist, students painted a 24-foot mural depicting the community. During a two-week period of time Geary worked directly with nearly 300 students teaching many art concepts. con-cepts. Such concepts as depth, the use of space, intensity of color and hues, feelings or moods created by color, and attention to detail are all part of the core curriculum in art re- - :y v- ' I 4 S 1 V - 1 " i 1 - ' " 1 """" i 1 quired for these students. Geary worked primarily with a core group of students from third, fourth and fifth grades. These students contributed the ideas for the various points of interest and activities ac-tivities which characterize our community in the mural. They were required to first sketch their idea on paper before being allowed to make it a permanent part of the mural. TTie exposure received by the students to the process of painting a mural was exceptional.
