Show Readers invited to : share influential stories During a lifetime, a person is influenced by many people-parents friends, teachers, community leaders and neighbors. Even a casual acquaintance or a stranger can say or do something that leaves a lasung impression in one's memory. In our society, the role of women as role models and molders of personality is well accepted. Everyone can attribute some good personal per-sonal trait to the teachings of a mother. We can all recite stories about a woman elementary school teacher that contributed something to our learning experiences. During the past decade, the role of women in society has changed greatly. Economic necessity has forced many mothers to leave the home to find work on a full or part-time basis. Vocal women's rights groups sometimes give the impression that prior to the mid-70's, women contributed little outside the home. Except for school teachers, women of the past, many believe, had few opportunities to develop their abilities in business, government service or the professions. profes-sions. For the next month, the Clipper will be profiling biographical ly some of the Davis County women, past and present, who extended themselves outside of the home setting to greatly influence their contemporaries. con-temporaries. The people we have selected are representative of a larger number of women who helped form our society. We want to recognize many of these influential ladies. To accomplish this, we are asking the readers to submit names and brief descriptions of influential women who made significant contributions to Davis County outside of the ; home setting. We will use this information in our February 14 issue. Please send your nominations in writing to the Clipper office no later that Feb. 1. We hope you enjoy this influential women series. 4 |
