Show Eyestone tells clinic of running success By GARY Sports Editor. Ed Eyestone, one of the nation's renowned long distance runners, from Bountiful, participated in a Clinic of Champions last Saturday at the Salt Lake Hilton Hotel. Die day-long clinic was sponsored spon-sored by TACUtah and the United States Women's Track Coaches Association. Eyestone talked on tne subject, "Why Sports?" He was named America's 4 'Roadrunner of the Year' ' for three consecutive years, 1986, 1987 and 1988, and was a member of the marathon Olympic team in 1988. Eyestone also ran as a member of the U.S. World Track and Field championship team in 1987 and was seven times a member of the U.S. World Cross Country team during the past decade. He was an all-American at BYU beginning his freshman year when he was finished No. 1 in the Western Athletic Conference Cross Country meet The following he placed third in the Junior World Cross Country Championships in Paris. After taking time out for an LDs mission to Spain, Eyestone returned to BYU in 1982 and placed in the top 10 in the NCAA Cross Country Championships in 1982 and 1983 In 1984, he was the NCAA 10,000-meter track and field champion cham-pion in the spring and the NCAA cross country champion in the fall. In 1985, he won the 5,000 and 10,000 meter NCAA champion-ships. champion-ships. Eyestone wrapped up his college career with 10 All-American track and field and Academic All-American All-American honors. |
