Recently, several city councils in Davis County were asked to vote yes or no on a proposal to support the Olympics in Utah. Because of this, a controversy arose as to ' whether or not council members should vote on such issues. 1 (1) Those who say the council . should not vote on the issue state That asking tiitxouncil to vote is merely a ploy to sway voters to be , in favor of the Olympics. Voters : should be left to make up their own minds. Councilmen do not have the right to try to influence them. (2) Those who say the council should vote on the issue feel that our elected officials are there to offer their opinion. Citizens can not fully explore every issue and therefore must look to elected officials offi-cials for their opinions. Council members did not seem to be the least bit hesitt-nt when it came to voting on liquor by the drink, so why should they hesitate to vote on this issue?
