Show Bands to compete at U. of U. in marching band competition iiiilliliiliilg;,- lilillillllllllll f' - - By DONETA GATHERUM SALT LAKE Three Davis district high school marching bands will participate in the 13th annual Western States High School Marching Mar-ching Band Competition which will open its three-day run in Rice SiMium on the University of Utah campus Thursday, Oct. 26, at 6 p.m. Those bands and their directors arc Bountiful, under the direction of Allen Tripp; Davis, under the direif-""tion direif-""tion of John Yoon; Viewmont, under the direction of Mike Murphy. Chairman Gregg I. Hanson, associate asso-ciate professor of music and director direc-tor of campus bands, said there will be 22 bands from Utah, Idaho and Wyoming competing in the event Each band will be allotted a 15-minute 15-minute time slot spotlighting band performance and, where so configured, con-figured, drum line presentations. Preliminary- competition on Thursday and Friday evenings will begin at 6 p.m., while the post-game post-game finals are scheduled for 7 p.m. The stadium will be cleared after the Utah-Colorado State homecoming homecom-ing game on Saturday, to allow bands and patrons time to prepare for the 7 p.m. re-opening and ticket sale. Competition winners will receive cash prizes or new instruments, depending upon their categories and final rankings. General admission tickets will be sold one hour before each announced announc-ed starting time at ticket booths south of Rice Stadium and near the -entrance gates. Hanson suggests early ticket purchase since the event annually draws large crowds and fills choicest general admission seats quickly. Tickets cost $2.50 for both preliminary nights and, $3.50 for the finals. j This home of the J.
