Show Animals are government's inocent, voiceless victims , Dear Editor, Once again the animals are the ' losers. Indeed, ' animal owners ' (responsible owners) should not have to carry the financial load. Having worked at the Humane Society of Utah, I know that the employees . bring in few animals. Most are brought in by owners who for. various reasons want to rid themselves of their pets. Good pet owners shouldn't give up their pets for.r anjr reason. Animals, all : animals, are everyone's respon-. respon-. sibility. We are their custodians. To , say otherwise, .would be unchris- I tian." x . , , ' . -..y It's sad enough that voiceless, in- . nocent animals are put into cages like criminals, and then either sold into painful medical research, or held a few days and then put to death. And they . have ; done no wrong, except to be born into a world with too few good homes. It seems everything else comes first . The county commissioners have no choice but to do. the right thing and continue the financing of the ' county animal control. This should come first, before the new jail, etcr . It was here first . Many people don't have children either, but still pay high property taxes because children are everyone's every-one's responsibility too. Most states provide a low cost spay, neuter and shot clinic for pet owners, to keep the pet population down. They also have an educational program in schools on pet ownership. Utah : seems to be so uncaring they don't even want to support the animal " controls. Utah has a lot to be ashamed and embarrassed oyer. Leigh Engelbrecht - |
