Marlene Burton, second grade, and Gabriel Larsen, third grade, were the student stu-dent winners. Both have been students of Sandy hman, who serves as secretary of the Rhyme and Reason chapter. Other winners include Marlene ; Fairchild, who won two honorable mentions and three special recognitions. recogni-tions. Kolette Montague won three honorable mentions, and Alice Whipple won one honorable mention. men-tion. Lloyd Murray won first place for a collection of light verse. The state contest is an annual event sponsored by the Utah State Poetry Society. The Rhyme and Reason Bountiful Chapter is one of . nine state-wide chapters who hold workshops, contests and discus-' sions about writing poetry. . Kolette went on to say, "We are especially proud of Lloyd. Not only did he win with a collection of poetry, he was also honored with a ' lifetime membership to the poetry society. This is a high honor for anyone." Serving as state secretarytreasurer secre-tarytreasurer since 1981, Mr; Murray has given invaluable service, ser-vice, performing his office with dedication and expert efficiency. He also serves as chairman of the only multi-category entry in the state contest, and assists with various state sponsored publications. publica-tions. "Our chapter is small, but highly respected in the state organization," Ms. Montague says. "Lloyd's honorary life membership was the first given since 1984 when Maxine Shreve, another valuable member of our chapter, received the award." Kolette extends an invitation, "Anyone interested in writing poetry is welcome to attend our meetings. We meet on the fourth Wednesday of each month in the small auditorium of , the South Branch of the Davis County Library in Bountiful from 6:45-9:45."
