The dispatch dispat-ch center answers 160,000 calls per year or about 430 every 24 hours on the 13 incoming telephone lines. The dispatchers also handle radio traffic that amounts to 438,000 calls per year or 1200 transactions every 24 hours. .7-7': 7- " Captain Simpson would like to get the public more familiar with what a dispatcher is and what happens at the dispatch center. "The dispatch center is the communication com-munication hub of the county," he said. The Davis County Sheriffs Department Countywide Communication Com-munication : Center provides primary dispatch service for 12 of . the 15 incorporated cities in Davis County. That includes law enforcement, fire, first response and medical services. ser-vices. The dispatch center is also the emergency operations center for countywide coordination of disaster relief . efforts. In addition, the dispatch center acts as a secondary dispatch source for 11 other agencies agen-cies and after hours for many cities' public works departments. ; A'-An A'-An open house for the public to see just what dispatchers do and how they answer the calls, has been '. planned for Dispatch Week which runs May 22-27. From 3-7 p.m. -each evening there will be tours of the facility during which the public will be brought into the dispatch center to see the equipment so they can see what happens when they :y call. The new 911 equipment will be on line by that time also. . ... At the same time, there will be - displays and demonstrations on other services including paramedics, search j and rescue, enhanced 91 1 and displays from the Fraternal Order of the Police. . The open house will give Davis County citizens the. opportunity to become more familiar with the sheriffs department and help them understand and get, involved with communication issues. |
